Volunteers - Required Training
- General Volunteer (Cannot work directly with athletes without a Certified Sport Volunteer or greater being with you)
- Volunteer Application & Background Check (Renew every 3 years) If you are under the age of 18, you must also complete the: Student-Minor Reference Form and turn in with the Volunteer Application
- ***NOTE!! Behaviors and Concussion Training Changes (3/22/2024) ***
- General Orientation (Take once)
- Sport Volunteer (required to work directly with athletes)
- Must take the General Volunteer training and add:
- Concussion Training (Renew every 3 years)
- Assistant Coach-Volunteer (Required to conduct training drills for athletes)
- Must take the General Volunteer, and Sport Volunteer training and add:
- Coaching Special Olympics Athletes (CSOA) and/or Coaching Unified Sports (CUS) (Take once) Offered live via SOMD or online at the following links:
Coaching Special Olympics Athletes (CSOA)- or
- Coaching Unified Sports (CUS)
- Must complete an approved education and development opportunity every 3 years.
- Head Coach-Volunteer (Required to participate in State competitions)
- Must take the General Volunteer, Sport Volunteer, and Assistant Coach training and add:
- Must take a sport specific training for the sport you are wanting to become a head coach for.
- Must complete sport specific course every 6 years to renew.
- Advanced Coach-Volunteer (required to participate in USA Games, NIT, World Games, etc.)
- Must take the General Volunteer, Sport Volunteer, Assistant Coach and head Coach training and add:
- Principles of Coaching - POC (Take Once and done). Offered live usually at SOMD HQ or:
